SAUGERTIES, N.Y. -- People gathered in Saugerties to pay their respects to former longtime Congressman Maurice Hinchey. Calling hours were held at Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Tuesday.

Hinchey died last Wednesday after being diagnosed with a rare terminal neurological disorder this past spring. He served in Congress for 20 years, championing environmental causes and represented a large portion of the state stretching from the Hudson Valley to the Finger Lakes.

Loved ones said Hinchey will be missed.

"Maurice was always for the people of Ulster County. Maurice, every day, thought about what he could do to make Ulster County better," said Ulster County Legislator Peter Loughran.

Hinchey’s funeral will take place Wednesday morning at Seamon-Wilsey.
