The murder arraignment of a Newburgh man was interrupted Monday by an upset relative.

Authorities say 59-year-old Kevin Cook is charged in connection with the death of 47-year-old Newburgh resident Tanya Smith.

During the court appearance, a relative of Smith tried to rush Cook in the court room.

Cook was taken into custody over the weekend after police responded to Carson Avenue for a reported unattended death.

After their initial investigation -- detectives say they identified Cook as a suspect in Smith's death.

Cook was also wanted on separate charges for an outstanding warrant in Illinois.

The investigation into Smith's death is ongoing while Cook is being held in the Orange County Jail with no bail.
