NEWBURGH, N.Y. -- Informational meetings were held throughout Tuesday in Newburgh and New Windsor to give residents the opportunity to discuss the extension of the state's blood testing program for PFOS in the region.

The blood testing program was extended by the Department of Health for an additional 8 weeks for potential PFOS exposure until December 31.

The DOH says roughly 5,300 people have expressed interest in getting their blood tested and so far 3,300 have already done so.

They say it's a great opportunity for residents to have a chance to receive personal information.

"I think the key here is this is another example of the state's commitment to making sure that they see this process through to the end and the public outreach and meetings like this, is one part of that process,” said Department of Health Spokesperson Gary Holmes.

The Department of Health says more meetings will be scheduled and information about those meetings will be released ahead of time.
