PORT JERVIS, N.Y. -- The Port Jervis Volunteer Ambulance Corps has shut down its operations.
According to Mayor Kelly Decker, the organization closed its doors early this month because of late insurance payments. The ambulance corps served Port Jervis and Deerpark.
Right now, EMStar and Mobile Life Support are providing service to the region, with possible longer response time. If the Port Jervis Volunteer Ambulance Corps can't get up and running by December 8, the New York State Department of Health will revoke its certificate.
Decker says the city will be hold an emergency meeting to discuss the matter.
“We want to get them up and running, and then from there, we’re going to re-evaluate how they operate," Decker said. "We will obviously have their books audited. We will have people on the board to oversee the actions taken.”
The common council will be holding the emergency meeting Tuesday night. The Town of Deerpark will also discuss the matter at their next board meeting on Monday.
