PORT JERVIS, N.Y. -- Thanksgiving came early for dozens of senior citizens in Western Orange County.

The Meals on Wheels program in Port Jervis delivered over 150 thanksgiving dinners to senior citizens in the city and in Deerpark on Saturday.

Preparations began Wednesday as several volunteers cooked eight 20 pound turkeys, 50 pounds of mash potatoes and three pounds of gravy.

Organizers say this couldn't have been possible without the support of people in Port Jervis and Deerpark.

“This is one of those little community thing that happens that we really just do it," said Kathy Shortell, Meals on Wheels Program Site Manager. "We don’t look for the publicity or anything. It’s that one little thing we can give back.”

This is the fifth year Meals on Wheels in Port Jervis has delivered thanksgiving dinners to senior citizens.
