THOMPSON, N.Y. -- While the construction continues for the Montreign Resort Casino, there's another big project going on nearby in Thompson.

“We’re excited about it," said Thompson Town Supervisor William Rieber. "We think it’s going to bring a whole different stream of customers to the area.”

The Veria Lifestyle Wellness Resort is being built just off Anawana Lake Road, on the site of the old Kutsher's Country Club. It broke ground back in June and now construction is moving along.

“So we have started digging for the foundation and we have started putting the rebar and we have started putting the frame work for the foundation,” Veria spokesman Abhay Jain said.

Despite the weather, the company says construction is on schedule. Work on the foundation is expected to last a few weeks before the steel goes up.

The $90 million project will feature a wellness center with a spa, yoga, and a nutrition room. There will also be a six-story hotel with 131 rooms.

“We have a ground floor and a main floor to have the wellness center, and then we have the hotel rooms above it,” Jain said.

Rieber says the town is meeting with the engineers every month to make sure all proper steps are taken for the project. He expects the resort to bring more visitors to the county.

“We’re very positive about that project," Rieber said. "It’s a niche environment that they’re going to create as far as their wellness center and spa type resort.”

The resort is expected to be open by spring 2017.
