MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. -- The Hoboken International Film Festival continues this weekend at the Paramount Theater in Middletown, but the festival's future in the region remains uncertain.

A three-year agreement to hold the festival in Middletown expires after its final day on June 9th.

A new agreement has not yet been reached.

Both sides have expressed an interest in an extension but regardless of the outcome, Mayor Joseph DeStefano believes other events can be held in the city.

Meanwhile, Kenneth Del Vecchio, the chairman of the film festival, would like to stay in Middletown.

"We'll continue discussions and we're thankful for the few years that it's been here, but at this point we are considering other options," DeStefano said.

"I want to stay here because I want to keep improving the economy and we've infused millions of dollars into the economy here and created hundreds of jobs and I want it all to stay right here," Hoboken International Film Festival Chairman Kenneth Del Vecchio said. "I believe Middletown wants it to stay here as well, that's what they've told me. So it looks like we'll be here, but we'll talk about it after the festival."

Featuring more than 175 films, the Hoboken International Film Festival  is one of the top ten largest film festivals in the world.

It moved from Hoboken to Middletown in 2013 due to Superstorm Sandy.
