A member of the New York State Police shot a man while responding to a call that the man was threatening a woman with a knife. 

State police say troopers responded to a menacing call at Coyote Flaco Restaurant on Route 82 on Tuesday morning. They say during the call, a trooper shot their weapon and hit the suspect, who died from the injuries sustained.

New York State Police identified the man shot as 41-year-old Jaime Lopez of Stanfordville. According to the release, Lopez failed to respond to commands from the troopers on scene and moved aggressively toward them. Trooper Kevin Wolensky fired two shots and struck Lopez.

Troopers did attempt to provide CPR at the scene until EMS personnel arrived. Lopez was transported by EMS to Mid-Hudson Regional Medical Center, where he died.

The shooting is currently under investigation.
