A police pursuit Sunday evening on in the town of Lloyd ended tragically, with the death of a woman who was not involved in the pursuit.

New York State Police said town of Lloyd Police received a call of a Porsche Cayenne that was moving erratically at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

According to a press release from State Police, the driver of the Porsche would not stop when trailed by Lloyd officers and State Police, touching off the westbound pursuit on State Route 299.

"There were like six cop cars, and a ton of firefighters," recalled Christopher Smith, who was working the counter at Lakeside Licks Ice Cream Parlor, about two miles from where the pursuit ended with a multi-car crash.

"Then we heard very loud noises," Smith said. "Then everybody pulled out of here and they went to the Lowe's parking lot to watch."

Police said the Porsche, driven by Poughkeepsie resident Ryan Williams, 29, hit a car while in the westbound lanes near South Street, before crossing the road and hitting an eastbound pickup truck, driven by Danielle Pecoraro of New Paltz.

Pecoraro, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in her truck was hospitalized and is in stable condition, according to police.

Williams was taken to Westchester Medical Center, and was in "critical but stable condition," police also said in the press release.

Officials from State Police Troop F said Williams will be officially charged shortly.

Investigators are still looking into what led up to the crash, including whether drugs or alcohol played a role.

Anyone with information about the pursuit and crash is asked to call the Highland post of New York State Police at 845-691-2922.

The family of Danielle Pecoraro was struggling, according to a woman who identified herself as Pecoraro's aunt and spoke briefly with Spectrum News outside Pecoraro's home in New Paltz.

"She was just a brilliant artist," she said. "She was a beautiful person."
