A town of Newburgh man has pleaded guilty after authorities say he fatally stabbed another man and hid his body in 2017.

The Orange County District Attorney's Office says 44-year-old Christopher Smith pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter Monday after stabbing a man in the neck last April.

The man had been staying in Smith's house, and family reported him missing in June.

The DA says Smith kept the man's remains in a planter outside, with police finding them in October.

Smith is set to be sentenced in August.

The office says it's recommending 20 years in state prison.
