CASTLETON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- A man was struck on the tracks by an Amtrak train and killed Thursday night in what police believe was an accident.

Police in Schodack said around 8:30 p.m., a man was crossing the track near the intersection of Scott Avenue and South Main Street. That man, identified as Thomas Brust, 27, of Mechanicville, was hit by a train heading north. No one on board the train was hurt.

It's unclear why Brust was there, but police say the area, near a village park, is often used for crossing to the Hudson River. Police said that the Federal Railroad Administration designated this as a closed crossing, meaning people are not allowed to cross and that anyone who does so is trespassing.
