NEWBURGH, N.Y. — A Newburgh man has been found guilty of assaulting two men with a padlock and chain back in May of last year.

Carlos Melendez, 29, was convicted of first-degree assault, second-degree attempted assault and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

The incident occurred in the early morning of May 20 on 478 Broadway in Newburgh.

Melendez used the padlock and chain as a flail and hit two men in the head.

One of the men suffered life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized.

Melendez is now facing more than 25 years in state prison when he is sentenced next month.
