ALBANY, N.Y. — A series of brawls that broke out Thursday at Albany High School prompted the school to shut down Friday for a full investigation.

Ten students were arrested, and 28 were suspended following the fights that created a chaotic scene for students and educators.

The fights broke out when students were leaving the building because someone pulled a fire alarm after 2 p.m. Once outside, several fights broke out between students, and the Albany Police Department was called to help educators. Students were then dismissed about 15 minutes early.

No weapons were found on the students or at the school. One student was taken to the hospital for a nose injury.

Administrators decided to close school Friday to review all surveillance video to see exactly who was involved in the fights.

Superintendent Kaweeda Adams expressed her concern for the incident over the phone. She says the administrators and educators are developing plans for the future to ensure this never happens again.

"[We're] enhancing security, high visibility, and making sure everyone is on the same page with procedures that may need to be put in place," Adams said.

Adams says that, on Monday, there will be counseling services available for students and parents to address any concerns.
