A town of Wallkill man pleaded guilty in court Tuesday to charges including attempted assault of a police officer after leading authorities on a high-speed chase through Newburgh and New Windsor last May.

Hector Camacho, 45, admitted in Orange County Court that he knew police were trying to stop him when he drove his car more than 120 miles per hour on I-84 while going the wrong way and under the influence of heroin.

Camacho also said he intentionally rammed his car into one of the pursuing Newburgh police cars while on State Route 52 in an attempt to injure the officer driving the car.

No police officers were injured during the pursuit.

Prosecutors have recommended Camacho be sentenced to seven years in state prison. His sentencing is scheduled to take place in January.
