MONTICELLO, N.Y. -- A Bloomingburg man convicted of raping a teenage girl multiple times has been sentenced to 18 years in prison.
The sentence was handed town Friday to 50-year-old Vernon Newhall in Sullivan County Court.
Newhall was accused of having sexual contact with a girl between the ages of 14 and 16 from 2014 to 2016.
The girl later spoke to a school nurse, prompting an investigation that led to Newhall's arrest in November.
He was convicted of second and third degree rape, endangering the welfare of a child and other charges.
Newhall will have to register as a sex offender, and also was sentenced to ten years of post-release supervision.
There is also an order of protection for Newhall's victim.
