SUMMITVILLE, N.Y. -- The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office says a man is facing a preliminary DWI charge after a fatal car crash in Summitville.

Officials from the sheriff's office says it responded to a car that crashed into a tree off US Route 209 just before midnight Friday.

Officials say the jaws of life needed to be used to get the driver and passenger out of the vehicle.

The passenger, George W. William III of Wurtsboro was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car, 21-year-old Luke Dardis of Stamford, Connecticut was airlifted to Westchester County Medical Center and deputies filed preliminary DWI charges against him pending the outcome of an investigation.
