As members of congress continue their work on tax reform, another issue hangs in the balance. The Johnson Amendment is the part of the federal tax code that protects charitable nonprofits, religious organizations, and foundations from electioneering. The bill passed by the House weakens that protection, and many nonprofits are concerned that the amendment will be further weakened or even repealed when this is all said and done.
