A Syracuse man is facing multiple charges after leading state police on a two-county chase.

New York State Troopers were alerted to a stolen Volkswagen Passat Saturday afternoon. They spotted the car in Clay around 4 p.m.

They tried to stop the driver, but Darien Sampson, 30, did not pull over. He continued to drive, nearly hitting a marked state police car in the process.

Troopers used a tire deflation device but Sampson maneuvered around it and continued to drive until hitting another vehicle.

It was determined that Sampson was driving while under the influence of drugs and a Border Patrol K9 unit found narcotics in the vehicle, including methamphetamine.

The investigation also determined the car was stolen from a member of Sampson’s family.

Sampson is charged with felony charges of criminal possession of stolen property and driving while ability impaired by drugs. He’s also facing charges of reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a controlled substance (seventh degree), resisting arrest, unlawfully fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, obstruction of governmental administration, aggravated unlicensed operation and reckless driving in addition to several vehicle and traffic law violations.

He's being held in the Oswego County Justice Center on bail and is due in court on January 8.
