Postal and delivery carriers are doing their best to deliver holiday packages on time but police are asking shoppers to take some precautions with home deliveries.

Auburn Police say a package was stolen on the city’s west end earlier this week.

Police Chief Shawn Butler recommends talking to a close neighbor about having packages delivered to their address if no one will be home to receive it during a scheduled delivery window.  There are also systems available to send a notification to a cell phone when someone rings the doorbell.

It’s also possible to schedule deliveries for a more convenient time.

Butler says the suspect has not been located, but came to the door with a clipboard, didn't get an answer and took the package.
