Dick MacPherson's funeral brought out some of the biggest names in SU sports, from Jim Boeheim to Dino Babers.

Many in the community came to pay their respects.

"He had the attitude of a small-town guy, but was a big-time performer," said former SU football player Jim Ridlon. "He could engage anybody in conversation. Within hours, they'd be his best friend."

And the family says there was more to 'Coach Mac' than the game he loved.

"Many will remember [him] for the football coach he was, and that is absolutely fine," said his grandson, Macky MacPherson. "What I want people to know is that not only was he a Hall of Fame coach; he was also a Hall of Fame grandfather."

"Coach Mac was an impact person," said sports broadcaster Doug Logan. "He raised the level of all of our lives here in Syracuse and beyond. And anyone who met Coach Mac left his presence feeling better about themselves."
