The Friday Night Matchup featured a meeting between undefeated Whitesboro and 6-2 Carthage in the Class A semifinals. The Warriors and Comets already met on the gridiron once this season, with Whitesboro coming away with a 13-0 victory.

With a trip to the Carrier Dome on the line, the Comets came out with a ton of energy. They struck first in the first quarter, but Whitesboro answered to tie the game. Carthage responded by scoring 14 points in the second quarter which sent them into halftime with a lot of momentum.

In the second half, the Comets kept up the intensity. By the fourth quarter they had a 31-7 lead, which was a lead that the two-seed couldn’t overcome. When the final horn sounded, Carthage got to celebrate their 31-19 victory. The player of the game was quarterback Nick Cavellier, who naturally was all smiles after. “Our difference was we had a lot of hype on the sidelines with all the fans,” the junior said afterwards.

With the win, the Comets punched a ticket to the Class A final where they’ll square off with Indian River on Friday night on Spectrum News.
