The first Friday Night Matchup of the high school football season features two teams who know each other well. Christian Brothers Academy will travel to Cicero-North Syracuse Friday night at 7 p.m., a game you can see on Spectrum News.

C-NS is coming off their best season ever. The Northstars reached the state semifinals after rolling through the Section III regular season undefeated. There are some key players returning including quarterback Conner Hayes. Being the defending Section III champions, the target will be on their back all season long.

“We can’t really worry about everyone else,” Hayes said. “We have to worry about ourselves, we have to get better everyday at practice. If we do that the Friday nights will take care of themselves.”

CBA beat C-NS to win the sectional championship in 2016. But last year the Brothers couldn’t match the same level of play. This year it’s going to be even more difficult with the loss of star running back Stevie Scott and quarterback Sirvocea Dennis to graduation. Now a new class of seniors hopes to step up.

“We obviously learned a lot from them,” said senior safety Tim Denham. “We know what we need to do to get things done.”

C-NS pounded CBA 61-7 in the sectional quarterfinals last year. The Brothers will be looking to strike back. Tune in to Spectrum News Friday night to watch. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
