State Assembly District 119

In the 119th Assembly District, Democrat Marianne Buttenschon secured the seat with 100 percent of the votes counted. She beat Republican Dennis Bova, with a final vote count of more than 19,000 votes.

Buttenschon is currently a dean at Mohawk Valley Community College. She says the 15 month campaign was a long but worthy experience.

"Oh attending over 300 meetings, knocking on over 3,000 doors, just meeting great people hearing what the concerns were the assets of the area and I just look forward to working with everybody," said Buttenschon.

Buttenschon thanked her watch party for their hard work and support over the last 15 months.

State Senate District 53

Rachel May took the 53rd State Senate District, beating out Republican Janet Burman.  She beat out incumbent Dave Valesky in a surprise primary win back in September.

May is the Coordinator of Sustainability Education at Syracuse University, but she's excited to take on a new role in politics.

"The turnout today and the energy behind this democratic movement makes me very optimistic for the next chapter for our region and our state," said May.

State Senate District 50

Republican Bob Antonacci is projected to win the state senate seat in New York's 50th district.

He comes to the State Senate after serving as Onondaga County's comptroller. He beat out democrat John Mannion, a biology teacher at West Genesee High School.

Antonacci replaces John DeFrancisco, who is retiring after holding the seat for 26 years. Antonacci acknowledged the large amount of absentee ballots yet to be counted, but he's not worried.

"I truly believe that we're going to be down in Albany very shortly working hard for you, trying to change the trajectory of this state, fighting for central New York and our fair share, and I couldn't be happier to get to work for all of you in this room," said Antonacci.
