Crews have repaired a water main break in Utica.

It was located near the corner of Oriskany Boulevard and Genesee Street. The state Department of Transportation finished repairs on the main at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, and water has been restored to the area.

The area of the break remains closed, though.

Officials say a 16-inch pipe burst around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Crews built a barrier out of snow to control the flow of water, but they were not able to keep it out of nearby basements. The fire department was helping to pump six feet of water out of the basement of the Observer Dispatch, and an additional four feet out of the State Building.
