Sandy Creek's school board needed an emergency meeting Thursday night, as the high school principal comes under fire for comments she made on social media.

The board would not comment following their executive session, only saying that they were discussing a "personnel matter." But controversy has been swirling around principal Emily Wemmer, after a post she made on her personal Facebook page was shared publicly.

She has since deleted all social media accounts, but she did send a statement to the school board and families in Sandy Creek trying to explain the situation.

She said, "I would like to offer my sincere apology to anyone who may have felt that my statements were disrespectful. It was never my intention to speak badly of this community, which has welcomed me with open arms. In context, my meaning was that I feel a need to empower my female students in what is, in many respects, a traditional and conservative culture.

"I allowed my personal political beliefs to overshadow that message, which ultimately is that I care deeply for the welfare and success of Sandy Creek students."
