The Salvation Army needs more donations for families this holiday season.

Hundreds came to the Huntington Family Center in Syracuse on Tuesday to find out if they're eligible for the annual Christmas Distribution Day.

Some low-income families get a gift card for a warm holiday meal, plus a book, a toy and a stocking stuffer for each child.

For the past six years, nearly 20,000 families have been served — but they're a little worried this year.

"Donations right now, on my end, are down because I manage the Red Kettle drive. So donations are always helpful in any form from anyone because it really gives us the ability to shift and purchase what we need, even if it is at the last minute,” said Major David Dean, director of the Onondaga County Salvation Army.

Distribution Day is coming up on December 19 at the Oncenter.
