A firefighter is recovering after being hit by a suspected drunk driver in Tompkins County.

The Newfield Fire Company says Chris Willis was seriously injured in a car crash in Newfield Sunday. His girlfriend and mother were also badly hurt.

Willis has been with the Newfield Fire Company for more than 10 years and has also worked as a firefighter for the city of Corning.

State Police say 27-year-old Andrew Sampson of Horseheads crossed over into oncoming traffic and causing the crash.

He's charged with first-degree vehicular assault, driving while intoxicated and unlawful possession of marijuana.
