It's been a battle with town halls, starpower, and quite a bit of controversy.

Although more ballots remain to be tallied, and right now the results are unofficial, it looks like Democrat Anthony Brindisi is coming out on top, earning the most votes in the 22nd District.

"Really shows that we put together a campaign and a message that appeals to people on both sides of the aisle, and that's really how I want to behave as a member of Congress. I want to work with both sides and try to bring people together and get things done," Brindisi said.

Brindisi appeared to be leading by more than 1,000 votes after election night.

When you factor recent absentee and affidavit counts into that number, he's leading by more than 4,000 votes.

According to WUTQ, Claudia Tenney conceded Wednesday night, but took some time before making the decision. Brindisi said that was a decision that Tenney had to make on her own.

"That's a decision that she has to make herself," said Brindisi. "I want every vote to be counted as well. The election has to be certified by the Board of Elections by December 3rd so she'll have to do things on her own timetable. I can't control that."

Tenney's campaign manager released a statement earlier this week. The statement said Tenney will respond accordingly when all the votes are counted.

"I would very much like to work with her so we have a very smooth transition because at the end of the day we're both here to serve the consituents and the more we can work together during this transition period to ensure a smooth transition, the better it is for the voters and the people here in the 22nd District," said Brindisi.

Some votes will have to be decided on in-court because they were challenged by the campaigns. However that's unlikely to change the outcome.

Spectrum News reached out to Claudia Tenney's campaign but they haven't responded since the most recent unofficial results came in.

All canvassing and recanvassing in Oneida County is expected to finish by next Tuesday.
