South Side residents are breathing a sigh of relief, now that Crouse Hospital is not building a drug treatment center in their neighborhood.

Tomorrow's Neighborhoods Today South Side Task Force met with the community on Saturday to discuss plans moving forward.

The group has a five-year plan with hopes of providing a better quality of life.

They want to restore more than 100 vacant houses and add more businesses, along with building a cultural center and a safe place for children to play.

The Task Force is already working on opening the Community Cafe.

They say it's a sign of hope.

"We feel it's our time," Angela Wright, said a South Side community advocate. "Everyone wants it. When one community is prosperous, another community should be prosperous. We've all under the umbrella of Syracuse, New York."

The group meets the first Monday of each month at the South Side Innovation Center at 6 p.m.
