A Utica murder suspect and his defense team pleads not guilty to the death of 25-year-old Deon Williams Jr., who was shot and killed on June 28th, on Bleeker Street, in Utica.

On Wednesday 35-year-old Omar Ortiz was arraigned in Oneida County Court. He stood in front of Judge Bauer who addressed the 10 counts which he is being charged with.

The charges consist of murder in the second degree, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, and multiple counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, with intent to sell.

Ortiz was arrested by Pennsylvania State Police in June. Spectrum News was able to confirm with the Oneida County District Attorney’s Office, that Ortiz fled from the scene on Bleeker Street to the Pennsylvania border.

According to the DA’s Office he was arrested by Pennsylvania State Police.

“The next step here is he will be brought back to court and see what he would like to do,” said Michael Nolan, Assistant Oneida County District Attorney. “If he would like to have a trial then we will have motions.”

The District Attorney’s Office has made a plea deal with Ortiz, but there is no word on what that offer may be.
