Syracuse police say the man behind a 2016 homicide in the city is now in custody. But, they had to go to North Carolina to get him.

Police say this man, 40-year-old Eduardo Robles Vazquez, shot and killed 26-year-old Gerald Solomon back in July of 2016 on Coolidge Avenue.

Solomon died several days later in the hospital, and police say Vazquez fled the state. But they kept working leads, and worked with United States Marshals and local police in Fayetteville, North Carolina, to bring him in, and back to Syracuse.

Chief Frank Fowler is happy to see his team get the job done.

"Anytime a family in this community loses a loved one, it's our goal to try to bring closure to it because that's the only relief we have to offer on the heels of such a tragedy. And, every time I can stand at this podium to announce the fact that we're taking a murderer off the streets and bringing closure to a case like this, yeah it helps, it absolutely helps,” Fowler said.

Vazquez is charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
