A house that was being renovated in the town of Onondaga may have exploded before catching fire.

Firefighters spent about an hour knocking down flames at a home on Holmes Road.

Crews say that since the house was under renovation no one was home, and no firefighters were hurt.

The initial call came in, reporting that someone heard an explosion.

"This being a not very heavily traveled area, the fire did have a few minutes to burn until it finally got to a point that some things ignited and the neighbors heard an explosion,” said South Onondaga Fire Chief Erik Nelson.

One issue crews did run into was accessing water. They say they had to truck it in from a nearby creek.
