The community says goodbye to their sibling, son, friend and family member.

"Sadness because every single person in this community lost a child and we'll never be able to answer what if, what could've been?"said Mary Stassi, James Springer's cousin.

James Springer III, was just 12 years old.

He was shot by a bullet not meant for him, and killed on Park Street last week.

His best friend Caitlin Hunter among the many that can't believe he's not here.

"He was just a happy little boy, he didn't even do anything wrong, always playing, having fun."

Many dealing with different emotions Tuesday. Disbelief, grief and even regret about not moving out of the city sooner.

"We were planning on moving to Florida," said John Springer, James' Godfather.

Funeral services were held at Saint Matthews Church in East Syracuse.

Family members remembered James as a child full of life with a big heart.

"I want him to be remembered as Baby J who looked out for his sisters and brother, he would turn around a penny and make into $20 for his sisters," says John Springer.

Trying to stick together, and focus on good memories through the pain.

"He taught me how to ride his hoverboard. You know how many times I fell off that thing?," says his uncle, Michael Johnson, with a laugh. "It's just shock, sorrow, it shouldn't have happened he was 12 years old, no 12 year old should be buried before their parents its not right."

Springer was buried at St. Mary's Cemetery in Minoa following the service.
