Police have arrested a track and cross country coach who is accused of promoting child pornography.

Martin Nicholson, 31, is charged with one count of use of child for sexual performance, promoting child pornography, unlawful surveillance, and criminal sex act in the third degree. Nicholson is also charged with two counts of pornography possession.

"A track and cross country coach at a number of high schools throughout Central New York was involved in promoting child pornography," said Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick.

At Nicholson's arraignment, the judge set bail at a total of $25,000 cash.

Prosecutors are offering limited information about three victims, all female. One is now in her twenties, the alleged incident occurring nearly a decade ago. Two other victims are now teenagers who were under the age of consent when they came into contact with Nicholson.

"If you've not been contacted by state police, your child is not one of the victims related to the arrest," said Fitzpatrick.

The DA says Nicholson is no longer an active coach in the area, though he was at one point "very active" in Onondaga county.

Investigators say he was a coach at three districts-- Westhill, Jordan-Elbridge and Bishop Ludden.

"We suspect he has had contact with numerous young children throughout the course of his career and we're asking for the public's assistance with information," said Fitzpatrick.

Nicholson was a track and cross country coach for multiple high schools across Central New York. Fitzpatrick mentioned Jordan Elbridge, Westhill, and Bishop Ludden as schools involved.

Nicholson is not actively coaching as of now.

In a statement released by the Westhill Central School District, the school said, "The District was informed today of the arrest of former coach, Martin Nicholson, for serious crimes involving children. We have been in contact with the District Attorney and continue to cooperate with the investigation. At this time, no Westhill students have been identified as victims. Nonetheless, the safety and security of our students is our paramount concern."

Jim Froio, the Superintendent at Jordan Elbridge, sent out a release to parents Tuesday.

"This afternoon I met with the District Attorney and was informed of the arrest of Martin Nicholson for serious crimes involving young children. Nicholson worked for JE as an Assistant Varsity Track coach in the spring of 2010. The school district will continue to cooperate with the investigation.  The safety and security of our students is our paramount concern."

In court Tuesday night, Nicholson signed an order of protection for two plaintiffs.

The district attorney representing the case alleged that Nicholson possessed pornography with subjects as young as newborns and some images were shared with child predators online.
