Investigators are still looking into exactly what happened before a contract worker died Tuesday at Empire State Mine in the town of Fowler.

According to the Mine Safety and Health Administration, the accident has been classified as "Exploding Vessels Under Pressure." That's defined as an accident caused by the explosion of air hoses, tanks, or hydraulic lines.

All mining activities have been suspended during the investigation. This isn't the first time there’s been an accident at this mine.

In July, workers were injured when an elevator collapsed.

The Gouvernuer Mayor says this accident has hit the community hard and the mine is a huge economic source for the village.

"Empire State, Titan Mining, is on top of this,” said Gouvernuer Village Mayor Ronald McDougall. “They communicated to not only myself, but the community in general. It's tough to move behind a fatality. It really is."

Titan mining released a statement offering condolences to the victim's family, friends and coworkers. The mayor says support services will be available for everyone in the town.
