ILION, N.Y. -- Ilion residents dealing with discolored water are getting some relief.

The Health Department has provided the village with a tank of water and water bottles to distribute 24 hours a day through the end of the month.

The tank is located by the Ilion Fire Department. Water customers can fill their own containers with up to five gallons of water a week.

Water bottles are located at the Municipal Building for the homebound, and can be delivered by the village if necessary.

Discolored water isn't a new problem for the village, but many residents are still dealing with it from this summer.

To help, an aeration system was installed, but it isn't a final solution.

Ultimately, Mayor Brian Lamica said the infrastructure needs to be replaced. He said the board is still exploring options on both source and funding. Besides replacing the water system, a partnership with the Mohawk Valley Water Authority is being looked into.
