Syracuse police have confirmed the owner of the home where a mass shooting took place Thursday night is related to Rashaad Walker Sr. – a suspected gang member serving time in prison.

Six people – including children – are expected to survive after being shot during two shootings in the city.

Police were still on scene along the 1300 block of Midland Avenue Friday morning collecting evidence and taking photos.

Bullet holes are visible in vehicles and homes, but details on the investigation are still very limited.

Walker was found guilty of fatally shooting a 25-year-old man back in 2015. His son, Rashaad Walker Jr., was also Syracuse's youngest homicide victim. He was shot and killed at just 20 months old in 2010 by a bullet that was meant for his father.

The chaos started around 9 p.m. ET while a family was gathered there for a memorial. It was a gathering for Richard Harris, who Syracuse police confirm is related to Rashad Walker Sr.

Witnesses say a group of people were outside the home, when three men approached and opened fire.

The victims range in age from an 8-year-old girl to a 35-year-old. All five were taken to the hospital and are said to be recovering.

Both the mayor and police chief were on scene following the shooting – pleading for information and change.

"But make no mistake, this senseless violence impacts the entire community, this violence has to stop,” said Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh Thursday night

The second shooting happened around the same time on Furman Street. A 14-year-old was shot in the back and rushed to the hospital.  She is also expected to survive.

Right now, police are still looking into whether the two incidents are connected, but they're asking for tips in that case as well. Anyone with information is asked to call 315-442-5222.
