SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- There's always a lot going on in the Upstate University Hospital's Emergency Department, and it was even busier on Thursday night.

The hospital took in the victims of the mass shooting in Syracuse.

"Anytime you have a large number of patients unexpectedly coming into an emergency department like ours, we need to spring into action and change things up a little bit and that's what we did," said Dr. Jeremy Joslin, the Associate Chief Medical Officer and Emergency Physician.

A few things he said they did include:

• Contacted the Nurse Administrator

• Brought in staff from all over the hospital to help

• Moved and prepared spaces for the patients

• Coordinated operations with Public Safety and the University Police Department
