UTICA, N.Y. -- A number of projects are making progress at the Utica Zoo.

The most noticeable is the multi-million dollar renovation of the Primate Building.

The plan is to have the White-Handed Gibbons in their new exhibit in the coming weeks.

Next week, staff will learn if they have achieved accreditation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

That would mean training, expanded membership, and maybe more animals.

"We will know if we are a yes with our AZA Accreditation on Monday, September 24 at around 6:00 Seattle-time and what that will mean for us is the ability to expand our collection plan, getting animals that might be breeding pairs or younger animals," said Utica Zoo Executive Director Andria Heath.

The Utica Zoo needs help reaching their $3.3 million goal in their Primate Building renovation.

A match for match fundraiser is also underway through October 31 for up to $75,000.

You can visit the zoo's website if you're interested in donating.

The zoo is also a finalist in the Community Foundation's Community Choice Awards and could win $10,000 if they get the most votes.

Work is also being done on their Hyena building, Wildlife Hall, and a new switchback has been installed connecting the Bactrian Camel and Bald Eagle exhibits.
