Oswego County may be home to the next National Park.

Congressman John Katko says his Fort Ontario Study Act passed the U.S. Senate this week.

It’s not a done deal yet, as the legislation calls for a study of the Fort to find out if meets the criteria to become part of the National Park system.

The current Fort is built on ruins that date back to the French and Indian War.

During World War II, Fort Ontario became an emergency shelter for victims of the Nazi’s.

The bill now heads to the President’s desk for final approval.
