A Syracuse common council member who opposed the passage of a recent police contract is now facing some questions from the police union.

Back in May, Common Councilor Timothy Rudd posted a picture to Facebook. The post read, "I just walked down the street with a drill in the dark and thought about my privileges as a white man. I think I would have driven if I was black. I don't know what else to say."

Some members of the Police Benevolent Association say the post is anti-police, which Rudd denies. But the PBA is questioning the reasons behind Rudd's "no" vote on the contract.

"He's done them in the past and that's the real problem that I have," said PBA President Jeff Piedmonte. "Is Councilor Rudd doing this for fiscal reasons or is he doing this for anti-police reasons? He makes a big speech today about respecting the police and everything, but then votes against our contract."

"The only reason it's news now is because yesterday I voted against the police contract and the Police Benevolent Association would rather have a cultural war talking about Facebook posts than to talk about the work schedule of the Police Department or the rate of residency among its officers," said Rudd.

Rudd adds that he wanted time to properly review the financial impact of the contract.

It ultimately passed by a vote of 7-2.
