The third and final public hearing on Albany County's updated shared services plan was held Tuesday.

The updated version has three new proposals:

  • Increase solar power in the county
  • Transfer waste into electricity with Saratoga County
  • Digitize records

According to the Rockefeller Institute of Government, the updated plan will save the county $2.2 million in 2019 and by 2021 up to $10.2 million.

"We're ahead of schedule on implementing the health consortium, the energy program to save dollars on energy is well underway. We already have the database developed to share equipment and services so as soon as we populate that, tax savings will come through,” said Jim Malatras, Rockefeller Institute of Government president.

Municipality and school district leaders will vote on the shared services plan at 1 p.m. Friday at the Albany County Office Building.
