The Democratic primary is Thursday, and a new group of voters will be heading to the polls after an order was issued by Gov. Cuomo saying level 3 sex offenders can enter polling places after 7 p.m.

Some of the polling places are school buildings.

Senate Candidate Daphne Jordan is proposing legislation to permanently prevent level 3 sex offenders from entering schools.

Columbia County Sheriff David Bartlett says any time is a bad time for sex offenders to be on school property.

“I have kids in middle school and in high school, and I frankly don't want these people in here," said Bartlett. "They still have the right to vote, just, again, find another way, maybe absentee, maybe switch polling spots.”

There are 51 level 3 sex offenders in Saratoga County, between 60 and 80 in Columbia County, and more than 20 in Rensselaer County.
