LIVERPOOL, N.Y. -- More than a dozen teams were out playing kickball in Liverpool Saturday to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving.

The 13th annual Bill Leaf kickball tournament is named in honor of Syracuse television and radio reporter Bill Leaf.

He was killed by a drunk driver going the wrong way on Interstate 81 in 2006.

The kickball tournament also remembers Samantha Reynolds, a Liverpool High School student who was also killed by a drunk driver.

Loved ones say the continued outpouring of community support means a lot.

"It really is just so awesome to see that people not only haven’t forgotten, but they are also spreading awareness about the dangers of drunk driving. Like I said, it's a problem that is way too common around here,” said Maria Leaf, Bill Leaf's sister.

Along with raising awareness, the tournament raises money for a scholarship for aspiring journalists from Syracuse University and Liverpool High School.

Spectrum News was proud to participate -- and congrats to the team –- who won the Media Division.
