Syracuse Police is expanding its body-camera program.

Local officials joined together to announce the $300,000 expansion Saturday. It will provide the police department with 110 additional cameras.

Training for the program will begin in October. It will start with fifteen officers and additional groups will be trained as the year continues.

The department says it's a win for officers and the community.

"The community's looking for these things for transparency sake and I can tell you from the conferences I've gone to across the nation, most recent one, every department, seeing when they implement one of these camera programs is two things: reduce complaints against officers and reduce use of force. Those are two big pluses for us", says Joe Cecile, Syracuse Police Department 1st Deputy Chief.

Syracuse Police first started using cameras in February 2017.
