SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Police say they are now patrolling the 400 block of North Salina Street more frequently following concerns about public drug use and dealing in a nearby park.

Wednesday police, business owners and outpatient clinic, Helio Health, met about concerns of alleged illegal activity in Schlosser Park on North Salina.

Business owners worried that the clinic, which opened its doors in 2013, was part of the reason there was an uptick in concerns.

But police say they only learned about the concerns a few weeks ago.

Now police will continue to surveillance the area and the clinic plans to hire an officer.

"We're doing a bunch of things but as far as clearing the park, we're not doing that because people are allowed to sit on the bench. What we are doing is patrolling around the clock and doing what we call a "property check" where they stop the patrol car, get out and find out what the people are doing there,” said Syracuse Police First Deputy Chief Joe Cecile.

Police say that if a Helio Health patient is arrested in the park, they will be reporting it to the clinic as well.
