An important new program is being added in the Syracuse City School District this year to help those students who have been victims of crime or witnessed violence.

The "Supporting Our Students" program will add a school district tag to any police report for a student under the age of 18. The information will then go straight to the school, so services can be provided.

"Get those names to us in a timely fashion so we can activate those psychologists, social workers and community support we have so we can provide support to all the kids when they are coming to school," said Syracuse City School District Superintendent Jaime Alicea.

The program is also encouraging parents to report incidents by calling 411 or visiting the Syracuse City School District's website.
