UTICA, N.Y. -- The land is prepped, and three shipping containers are set, cut, and about to be officially unveiled in downtown Utica.

They're part of Handshake.City, and will house different vendors.

The park will also be used for other activities and entertainment.

It's all part of an effort led by Made in Utica members who said the entire project has been supported by volunteers.

"I've met a lot of people and I've never met them before. They just kind of walk by and be like, 'I saw this here or I've walked by this every day for the last five years. Something is going on. What can I do to help?'," said Justin Parkinson, the Co-Founder of Handshake.City.

"We've been here for a month and a half but from just this project I think people are bringing a lot of excitement and everybody is really interested in making something grow," said volunteer Maximiliano Ferro.

Handshake.Cit" officially opens Saturday at 12 p.m. during the "Downtown Getdown", but it will be open every weekend with rotating vendors as long as weather allows.

Then vendors will move into a building next to the park.
