One man was taken to the hospital after flames erupted in a Cicero apartment building.

Fire was shooting from the roof of the home on Glendora Road around 11:30 a.m. Friday. The fire started in the back of the home, went into the attic and spread quickly.

The injured man suffered burns on his hands. Firefighters were rotating in and out because of the conditions.

"We have the EAVES rehab team here; they come initially when we declare a working structure fire,” said Cicero Fire Chief Jon Barrett. “We're watching the humidity, the temperatures, high 70's, we have extra crews filtering in and out because our safety comes first."

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Red Cross officials are helping the displaced families.
