GEDDES, N.Y. -- Parking at the fair is a bit easier this year thanks to the new and improved Orange Lot.

Fairgoers got their first chance to use the new lot Wednesday.

A total of $27 million went into transforming the grounds from gravel, dirt, and grass to a paved surface. It can also now hold more than 2,000 more vehicles than before.

Fair officials say these upgrades make parking much more efficient.

"Things are going well. It's different for all of us but it's a better lot. It's 65-acres of pavement, it's lined. It's like driving into Destiny now, Destiny's parking lots now. It makes sense,” said New York State Fair Acting Director Troy Waffner.

A new exit was also built taking drivers from the Orange Lot to I-690 -- hopefully making the traffic flow much smoother.
